Who discommends:
This and its prequel, THE HERO AND THE CROWN, are among my top favorites of all time. It's always a thrill to see "Harry" go from a bored, restless daughter of the rich to a dynamic, magic-wielding co-leader of the Hillfolk. A great romance and hea too. Read it as a teen many times and it still enjoy it every time I pull it out.--Rebekah
One of my favourite books ever.--Danielle
Wonderful heroine, hero, setting! Another book I've read repeatedly.--Kathleen
This is probably my favourite book by McKinley.--Isabel (31 Jul 99)
Enjoyed, but wasn't especially impressed by, this novel: nothing wrong with it at all, and the setting was lovely, so maybe another case of reading in the wrong mood.--Tanya (30 Jul 99)
Well I finally read The Blue Sword, so brace yourselves: I loved it. Beautifully written and I was gripped from the very first page. Very taken with the "Lady Hero". It seems to me that McKinley had matured HUGELY as a writer between writing Beauty and this book. You can add me unreservedly to the Recommend list.--Catie (09 Aug 99)
One of my all-time favorites.--Margaret (08 Jul 01)
