Who recommends: Preeti, Rebekah, Danielle, Margaret, Shelley, Tanya
Who discommends:
Hexwood was completely different. It pulls you in and won't let go -- kind of like the Wood itself. Strange, atmospheric, and almost surreal. Rebekah compared it to Mythago Wood, and I can see why (although I'd say Lavondyss is closer, since both play vertiginous tricks with time twisting back on itself). It's also pretty dark; the villain is truly evil, and what he's done to the hero in the past is sadistic. The romance is low-key, but effective.--Danielle (25 Aug 99)
A bit on the confusing side with its flitting forwards and backwards in time,
as well as between fantasy and reality. It needs a fair amount of concentration but is worth the effort and is a very good read.--Margaret (15 Oct 00)
Very definite recommend - one of her best, and one of her most mature novels (more 'adult' in some ways than 'A Sudden Wild Magic')--Tanya (19 Oct 00)
