Loved 'The Gate of Ivory' when I first found it: I'm drawn by the idea of a relatively uncivilised world which has contact with a galactic 'empire', and the mixture of magic and science in this was great. (Also notable for being one of the few heroines to have a period Out Loud, as it were). It took me *years* to find the others ... they didn't have quite the charm of the first one (or the thrill of romance) but they're well-written and they flesh out the characters considerably.--Tanya (30 Jul 99)
I'm a bit surprised there aren't recommends for me here. I enjoyed all 3 books and found her world, its people and its customs fascinating. I was, however, annoyed that she finished book 3 with a cliff-hanger and then never wrote book 4. The lack doesn't spoil the whole series but is disappointing.--Margaret (15 Oct 00)
Put me down as a recommend for the whole series, tho the ending of the third was disappointing, as Margaret pointed out.--Danielle (18 Oct 00)
I recommend also. I love all of her stuff. Read City of Diamond first, and was entranced. Then found the Ivory series. I'm devasted that she's not writing books, but understand why she must make a living (but still am bummed that City of Opal may never come to light).--Suzanne (18 Oct 00)
